feeling impatient, scared, nervous, happy, tired, overwhelmed.. but mostly.. excited!!!

I’m in my anti-consumerism mood for the moment. What does that mean? It means that i try not to buy anything new. There are so many things thrown away every day, and at the same time millions of things being bought every day. How can we not combine these 2 procedures? do we absolutely want everything to be ‘new’..or is it just more convenient to go to a store and buy what you  need, instead of searching for it.. because let me tell you.. looking for what you want in second hand stores or websites if far more difficult, time consuming AND expensive (!) than just going to the nearby ikea and buying everything fresh from the factory.

But that’s the world we live in: Somebody called it the society of ‘instant satisfaction’. i want something, and i want it NOW. if i cant get it in the nearby store, i m sure amazon has it and i ll have the pleasure of possessing it in 2 days.

So…as we had a couple of months to prepare for the baby to arrive, we tried to be organized, make a list of the things we needed, and try to find those in the few second-hand places we knew of:

- troc in luxembourg city
- facebook’s second hand kannerbazar luxembourg group
- facebook’s freeyourstuff group (amazing initiative)
- ebay
- luxbazar
- endless kannerbazars (the one in roeser is phenomenal!)

and i know that luxembourg is far more limited that other bigger countries.

anyway..those are for the furniture: second hand stuff combined with things i had laying around the house (bought a long time ago, because i did like ikea someday too…)
the deco was done from cardboards and paper.
and we were lucky to get tons and tons of clothes from our brothers and sisters who just had babies…

now, of course we did buy new things too…yes i am picky enough to want by baby to sleep on a good mattress and use clean diapers..
but then, i tried to control where i spent my money…i d rather support a little shop-owner or a creative artist than big malls and corporations.
that s why i’d recommend naturwelten in luxembourg: a bio oriented little shop selling everything you need for babies (and more)
and we ordered washable diapers from tirsokas: a creative freelance woman creating amazing hand-made fabric diapers.

i tried to create a patchwork from leftover fabric i brought back from chad last year.
it s the first time i m experimenting with a sewing machine, so it s not perfectly perfect, but i had fun doing it.
i also absolutely wanted to integrate the 2 birds thierry bought in chad, as i absolutely dont know how else to use them around the house
